Morpholine is used as an emulsifier and adjuvant for the solubilization of shellac, which is used as a wax for the preservation of fruit. In nature, fruits produce waxes to protect themselves from the attacks of insects and fungi. A new layer of wax is applied to increase both the protective power and the visual attractiveness of the fruit. The European Union has banned the use of morpholine in the fruit coating.Cadir Lab, through the implementation of the official method CVUA EURL- SRM QuPPe Vers 9.1 met 4.2 2016, is able to determine morpholine and its metabolites diethanolamine and triethanolamine. The trial is accredited by Accredia.
